You're Never Alone With Your Ukulele

You're Never Alone With Your Ukulele

The world of quarantine can be lonely. Ideally, being alone does not have to mean lonely. Uku wants you to know that we are here for you during these times. We value community and the way ukuleles can bring people together. It’s part of our mission. Uku was founded on the belief that ukuleles create community and spread happiness.

It is not easy stepping out of the box and trying something new when uncertainty surrounds us. Here are some ideas and activities you can do to feel closer to your loved ones this holiday season. Spoiler alert: they all include ukuleles!

1) Virtual Jam Sessions

Do you already have a ukulele community you jam with? If you haven’t tried a virtual jam session, now is the time! Take turns with your friends being the jam leader. Turn off all microphones except the leader’s to ensure the lag and feedback doesn’t make things complicated. then, you can all play along to your favorite songs!

Never tried a virtual jam? We have a suggestions. Check out Anne Ku, the author of the Happy Helpful Guide to the Ukulele, as she leads Three Chord Thursdays here:

2) Record and Share

Do you have someone on your mind, someone you miss, or haven’t seen in a while? Maybe there is a song that reminds you of them. Quarantine is a great time to take risks and practice your performance and recording skills! Record a song for someone you love. Just imagine how happy your Grandma will be when she gets a text or email from you singing and playing. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be heartwarming!

3) Teach and Learn

If you are already proficient in the ukulele, maybe you can offer a lesson to a friend who is trying to learn. Hop on video chat to show them a thing or two. Before you know it you’ll be making everlasting memories.

If you want to learn but don’t know where to start, look no further than Uku’s Learn to Play section of our website. You’ll find videos of Bernadette teaching each of the 10-Steps found in the Happy Helpful Guide!

These YouTube channels are also full of great ukulele teachers who want to spread the joy of playing as much as we do:

4) Gift the Love

Tis’ the season of giving. If you have no interest at all in playing the ukulele, that’s okay! You can still spread musical joy and cheer this holiday season by gifting a ukulele. Click here to check out our website’s store.

Thankfully, we live in a virtual age and can connect over technology like never before. We hope the ukulele can make your quarantine a little less lonely this holiday season. Together, we can get through this time and hopefully make a few musical memories in the process!
